Glass Dildo FAQ’s

Why are your glass dildos not the cheapest?

We’d be the first to agree that a glass dildo from A TOUCH OF GLASS® will cost more than most other glass dildos you see. And we make no excuses for that.

Why?

Because our exclusive range of glass dildos are luxury works of art, hand made from the most durable and highest quality glass known as Borosilicate – unlike some far-eastern imports of dubious origin that use an inferior and weaker grade of soda-lime glass primarily to keep costs down.

Other glass dildo manufacturers even use a soft silica glass, machine made outer tube, and fill it with coloured liquid to give the impression of artistic enhancement. This explains the sub-£20 price tags you see everywhere. Mass-produced invariably equates to cheap.

We’re different.

We make strenuous efforts to clearly differentiate ourselves from the suppliers of inferior and potentially dangerous products. Eventually someone is going to get hurt and we are keen to distance ourselves from any association with budget glass dildos and their suppliers.

Every one of our premium glass dildos is made individually by hand from a special medical-grade (Hydrolytic Grade 1) borosilicate glass from Schott, called DURAN®. Simply put, this is the highest quality, purest, and most durable borosilicate glass in existence.

The more common silicone, plastic, and rubber sex toys you see all over the web these days, are purposely designed to be thrown away after a while. They start to break down, smell funny, look weird, and generally lose their ‘freshness’ over time. Conversely, a borosilicate glass dildo is completely non-porous, and will NEVER absorb anything – including lubricants, fluids, smells, germs, and odours.

A DURAN® borosilicate glass dildo from A TOUCH OF GLASS® will literally last you a lifetime. In fact, it’s been made to last hundreds of years. Meaning the lifetime cost of ownership of one of our premium quality, hand-crafted glass dildos is proportionately less than that of a cheaper, mass-produced, throwaway counterpart … working out at a mere penny or two a day.

All A TOUCH OF GLASS® borosilicate glass dildos come with a full unconditional lifetime warranty as standard. No other glass sex toy supplier we know of gets anywhere close to endorsing the sheer quality of their products… unless you know different of course. In which case, we’d like to hear from you. Back to FAQ’s >

Is a glass dildo safe to use for sex?

Most definitely yes.

Glass dildos made from Schott DURAN® borosilicate glass (important) are extremely strong, easy to sterilise and keep clean, will not shatter, will not degrade, will out-last, out-perform, and out-satisfy any other type of dildo around. Back to FAQ’s >

Borosilicate glass? What is that?

Put simply, it’s a glass compound specifically formulated to be up to 10 times tougher than normal silica-based and soda-lime glass. Pyrex is the best known trade name of borosilicate glass. Schott DURAN® borosilicate glass will not crack or shatter when subjected to extreme temperatures and is in fact the ONLY grade of glass that is ISO certified as safe to use for sex toys.

Ordinary glass is inferior in quality, strength, safety, hygiene, and cleanliness. Glass dildos made from standard-grade ‘window’ glass should always be avoided in the interests of personal safety and good health. Back to FAQ’s >

Why are glass dildos so popular these days?

We believe there are 10 main reasons for glass dildos becoming popular these days:

  1. Long lasting – we even give ours a lifetime warranty.
  2. Hygienic, chemical, fluid and odour resistant and easy to keep clean.
  3. The sensuous touch and the feel of silky smooth glass on the most intimate and sensitive parts of your body is unbeatable.
  4. The rigidity of glass aids and enhances the intensity of orgasm.
  5. Glass dildos are particularly suited to G spot stimulation.
  6. Glass dildos lend themselves particularly well to being warmed or cooled so increasing the range and scope of your pleasure and enjoyment.
  7. Customers tell us their glass dildos are a ‘must have’ in sex play that they never grow tired of.
  8. They look attractive – unlike most ugly rubber ‘dongs’. Some of our customers actually display their glass dildos on the mantelpiece!
  9. Because it will still be around long after other toys have given up the ghost and been discarded, the actual VALUE of a glass dildo is unbeatable.
  10. And so on… the popularity of high quality borosilicate glass dildos is increasing year on year, mainly due to fun-loving people who try one, LOVE it, then add more and more to their collection.

Why is each one slightly different?

Unlike other sex toys and the cheap dildos some suppliers import from the far east, our range of borosilicate glass dildos are exclusively and individually hand-made. Yes it’s true. A real live human-being skilfully crafts each single piece by hand.

And because they are so expertly made individually by hand, you wouldn’t expect two glass dildos to be exactly the same as each other would you? But isn’t that part of the attraction? While many will purchase the same model type, no two will ever be identical. Meaning you will own a truly unique work of art.

Is it safe to warm up or cool down a glass dildo?

Yes, it certainly is. While borosilicate glass can hold high and low temperatures for quite some time, there are a few safety guidelines to be wary of before you get started:

  • Warm up your glass dildo with water straight from the hot tap. A couple of minutes should be long enough, depending on the size. Using water from the tap ensures an equal distribution of warmth and guarantees your comfort.
  • Do NOT ever be tempted to microwave your glass dildo. It will cope, but you might not. Microwaving produces hot spots. So while the part you’re holding feels OK, the other part coming into contact with your most sensitive bits could well be hot enough to cook a pasty! Try explaining that in A & E.
  • It’s OK to cool down your glass dildo with cold or iced water. But please, DO NOT ever be tempted put your glass dildo in the freezer. Although borosilicate glass is in itself freezer-safe, YOU most certainly are not! Cold, dry, deep-frozen glass will stick to warm, moist, body parts with alarming ease. What story are you going to give the A & E nurse this time?

OK, so why warm up or cool down a glass dildo in the first place?

Most of us don’t even think about experimenting with temperature when playing with sex toys, primarily because so few are suited to it… toys that is, not people! However, borosilicate glass dildos are perfectly suited to ‘temperature play’.

Why warm?

Warmth feels good… warmth feels comfortable… warmth feels inviting.

Anywhere touched with a delectably warm glass dildo becomes more sensitive more quickly. Warmth helps the most sensitive parts of your body engorge with blood much quicker. Slide a warm glass dildo over your clitoris and your labia will react delightfully by swelling faster and your natural lubricating juices will begin to flow so much quicker. Used on the G spot, a warm glass dildo makes you more sensitive quicker… a swift route to orgasm.

Why cool?

Once you have languished for a while in the warm zone… flushed, or even hot… a cold ‘tingle’ can be quite delightful.

Places touched with a cold glass dildo will ‘calm down’ as blood vessels constrict and tingling nerves are settled. A cold glass dildo acts particularly well as a clitoris ‘reset’. Many woman can get over-sensitive after orgasm. The soft touch of a cool glass dildo on the right spot can get her back in the mood for more play.

Will a glass dildo break inside me?

No, absolutely not.

Your borosilicate glass dildo will never break inside you.

Borosilicate glass will not shatter like ordinary glass. It will also shrug off a fair dose of bumping, dropping, and even bouncing across the room without a problem. However, if you accidentally drop your toy from a significant height onto a hard surface, it might break. It will almost certainty get chipped. If it breaks, it will typically snap in two, so it will be obvious it’s broken. If you ever accidentally break of chip your A TOUCH OF GLASS® dildo, stop using it immediately. Return it to us under the terms of our unrivalled Lifetime Warranty and we’ll replace it for you. We’ll be as quick as we can, so try not to cry in the meantime while we rush a new one to you. What if I am allergic or sensitive to some materials?

This is yet another area where glass dildos exceed the specifications of common sex toys. Since glass is 100% non-porous it’s a breeze to clean, to keep clean and to sterilise. Warm soapy water will do the job admirably. And because they are made out of glass – not rubber, plastic or silicone – glass dildos are ‘hypoallergenic’. Which means they are completely safe to use for anyone with an allergy or sensitivity to the materials commonly used in lesser-quality products. Back to FAQ’s >

Is the decoration and colouring safe?

Yes, most certainly. The coloured glass dildos in our range have the colour embedded INTO the glass, not added ONTO the surface. For your safety, you should always avoid glass sex toys that have colour painted onto the surface. This has the effect of nullifying the hypoallergenic properties and the associated advantages of glass. Back to FAQ’s >

Should I use a lubricant?

Sure, if you like.

Due to the non-porous nature of borosilicate glass, all lubricants work well (even your own natural juices) because none of it gets absorbed. In fact you’ll need very much less lubricant than you may be used to. Often you will find you’ll need none at all. For vaginal and anal use, a water based glycerin-free lube is best. Always buy the highest quality you can find because you really don’t want to be introducing strangely named chemicals or extra sugar into your most sensitive body parts. Our favourite is Lubetube Premium Aqua Gel from GiveLube. Always avoid using so-called ‘desensitising’ creams, lotions and lubes.

How do I clean a glass dildo?

Cleaning and looking after your glass dildo is a straightforward matter. Take care of your collection and it will reward you with many years of pleasure.

Here are a few useful tips:

  • You can clean your glass dildo using a proprietary sex toy cleaner. Be sure to follow the directions.
  • You can clean your glass dildo using normal hand soap or washing up liquid. Just make sure you rinse it well afterwards under running warm water.
  • All our glass dildos are dishwasher safe. So you can run yours through with the plates and dishes. A good rinse with warm water when you take it out makes sure no soap or other food debris is left behind.
  • If you haven’t used your glass dildo for a while (shame on you), be sure to rinse it off with warm water before getting down to business again, just to be on the safe side.
  • When you are not using it, ALWAYS store your glass dildo in a protective pouch designed for the purpose. This prevents your prized possessions from bashing against each other. Bouncing glass against glass can cause scuffs and chips on the surface. You can of course leave your beauties proudly on display on a bedside table, on your sideboard, or even on the mantelpiece. And why not? After all, they are stunning works of art to be admired and enjoyed.
